Beginning last week, an air crew has been placed at Vidant Bertie Hospital to strategically position it to serve the acute needs of Bertie County and the wider northeastern North Carolina region. Each year on Na tional Wreaths Across America Day, millions of Americans - a third of whom are children - come together to re member the fallen, hon or those that serve and In this edition their families, and teach the next generation the value of freedom. This year, the Wreaths Across America will be held at noon on Satur day, Dec. 14. Across the country, the event will be held simultaneously at more than 1,000 locations. Vaughan takes oath as Interim County Manager LESLIE BEACHBOARD Bertie Ledger-Advance WINDSOR - Bertie County has a new interim County Manager. Earlier the week at the regu larly scheduled Bertie County Commissioners Meeting, Juan E. Vaughan 11 took the oath of office as the county’s new man ager. The Superior Court Judge the Honorable Cy Grant admin istered the oath. Vaughan re places former County Manager Scott Sauer, who retired last month. Vaughan is a native of Hert ford County, and was educat ed in Hertford County public schools. He graduated from Hertford County High School in 2002. The chairperson for the event was Bertie County Department of Social Services Supervisor Vernetta M. Henderson. She has chaired the event for sev eral years. “She and her committee pro vided a splendid presentation,” said Adult Services Supervisor Rebecca Neil. The speaker for this year’s luncheon was Delina Davis Cooley, a Physicians Assistant from Aulander Medical Prac tice. Davis-Cooley is passionate about her work, particularly cancer prevention and treat ment. “Mrs. Davis-Cooley’s speech was full of passion. All attend ees of the luncheon were defi nitely enlightened by her pre sentation,’’ Neil added.
